FoodFund is a weekly produce box delivery service operating in London and the surrounding area. The “recovered produce” is sourced from local farmers across Southwestern Ontario. What makes it recovered produce? FoodFund sources fruits and vegetables that have been rejected from big box grocery stores for either not meeting cosmetic standards, or due to a surplus of a particular product. All the produce is fresh and flavourful, but would have otherwise been discarded.

On the FoodFund website, founder Divyansh Ojha says founded the company after seeing first-hand the food waste produced by big chain grocery stores. “I couldn’t help but feel unsettled by the contrast I saw,” he wrote, “there were people disposing bins of produce into the dumpster and there was an aged man holding up a cardboard sign, making a plea for food.”

How Does it Work?

Apart from their primary goal of preventing food waste, FoodFund aims to support local Southwestern Ontarian farmers. The company encourages their customers to choose fruits and vegetables that are in season, in order to support local farmers who can’t deliver exotic tastes in harsh Canadian winters.

Customers can customize their boxes each week on the FoodFund website. Every Saturday, a FoodFund delivery driver deposits your produce right at your front door. You also have the opportunity to choose between conventional or organic products, as well as the size of your box based on your household’s needs. In order to avoid food waste even further, FoodFund allows their users to cancel anytime, free of charge, as well as skip a delivery as needed.
